What are the differences between the Villas and Bungalows?

There are a few primary differences between the Villas and the Bungalows: Villas have a fully equipped kitchen with an option for private chef service and they each have a private pool with outdoor living area; they also have the option to add on all-inclusive packages. Bungalows automatically include all-inclusive packages for meals and beverages. All accommodations enjoy butler service, the resort pool, access to Snooty’s Bar, Inky’s Mini Golf and Inky’s 19th Hole, the beach and beach games, and other resort amenities.

Why do you need my passport and drivers license?

Upon check in, we will ask to see your passport. We are required to record the names and passport numbers of all guests. This information is securely stored and provided to the required Belizean governmental agencies monthly.

If you’re renting a golf cart and we handled the reservation, we’ll also ask for a copy of your drivers license which we provide to Captain Jak’s for their records. If you rent a golf cart yourself, you’ll have to provide the same information to them directly.

We value your privacy and never share, sell or distribute your personal information in any way. If you have questions, please let us know.

How do I get from Belize International Airport to Placencia?

International guests will fly into Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City, which is approximately 115 miles north of Placencia, where Sirenian Bay is located. You then have the option to travel to Placencia by air or ground.

Please Note: We do not recommend renting a car and driving yourself, unless you are familiar with driving in foreign countries. The road conditions and navigational signs are not what most travelers are accustomed to!
Ground Transfers

Alternatively, take advantage of our ground transfers from Belize City to Placencia and enjoy a scenic drive across the beautiful country of Belize. The drive takes around 4 hours, depending on stops.

Cost: We offer one-way ground transfers from BZE to the Resort for a flat fee of $300 or round-trip for $550.

How do we get to the resort upon arrival in Placencia?

If you’re flying into Placencia, our staff will be happy to meet you at the Placencia airport – just look for our logo on the vehicle and their shirts! If you’re driving (or we picked you up in Belize City), we’ll take you straight to check in at the reception desk and then make sure you’re settled comfortably!

Do you provide transportation?

We are happy to provide local transportation to destinations within 30 minutes of the Resort. Just let your butler know your plans and they will arrange it.

Can I rent a car or golf cart? Do I need a car in Placencia?

Golf carts are a very popular way to get around the peninsula. You can arrange a rental yourself through our partner Captain Jak’s – or we’re happy to take care of that for you. Choose from 4-seat or 6-seat carts, available by the hour, day, or week.

From Sirenian Bay, it’s about a 30-minute cart ride to the village or a 10-minute cart ride to Maya Beach. And unless you have plans to drive further around Belize by yourself, we recommend a cart over a car. The cart is a nice addition to your stay so you can easily make trips to the grocery store or to Maya Beach.

Tell me more about the beach… is there sea grass? Is it swimmable?

We have a gorgeous, swimmable beach at Sirenian Bay, which is raked daily to keep it soft and clean. Belize has the second biggest barrier reef in the world, and part of that habitat includes sea grass which helps sustain all of the tropical wildlife. Some sea grass may end up on the beach, but we’ll take care of clearing it for you. At certain times of the year, the sargassum comes in heavily – and while it’s not beautiful, it’s unlikely to hinder your vacation plans!

Do I have to use cash or can I use my credit card? Are there any ATMs available?

MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted throughout Belize, but you’ll find few places that accept American Express or Discover. For a small fee, ATMs are available in the village. Many tour operators accept credit cards, but some require cash (and you’ll want cash for gratuities for tours and other services). We recommend having some cash on hand and there are safes in each bedroom to store cash and valuables during you stay.

When does low season begin and is everything closed during that time?

“Low season” (arguably) begins around June 1st. However, Lobsterfest is during June and the Village is pretty lively during that time. June also kicks off hotter weather and more frequent rain and some businesses do close for a couple of weeks/months at a time to recover from the busy high season. With that said, there is no reason not to visit us in “low season” as plenty will still be open.

If you’re concerned about low season, September and October are the “worst” times to come because that’s when you’re most likely to encounter closed businesses… and it will be the hottest/wettest/buggy-est time of the year. But again, plenty of people still visit during those months and have a great time.

We recommend coming when your schedule allows and let yourself relax knowing that you’ll plenty to do with more than enough being open.

Is the water safe to drink?

Yes it is – and it tastes good! You can actually drink it right out of the tap. Our tap water comes from a deep artesian well on the mainland in Big Creek and is treated by the municipal water system. A relatively new PVC pipe system delivers fresh water to commercial and household users throughout Placencia Village and it’s generally recognized as safe to drink. However, we know each person has individual preferences and bottled water is widely available at an affordable cost.

What’s the weather like in Belize? Is there a rainy season? A hurricane season?

More than likely you and your family will enjoy gorgeous sunny days with an average year-round temperature of 75-80°F the entire time you’re here (trust us, you’re going to love it—the weather is near perfect)! The Caribbean Sea water temperature also stays around 80°F throughout the year.
Belize does have a wet season—June through December, when parts of the country receive up to 150 inches of rain and heavy, sometimes wild storms coming off the Caribbean, which usually occur in the late afternoons.

And yes, Belize does have a hurricane season—June through mid-November and historically, most hurricanes have occurred between August and October in Belize.

Never fear though, we have a cooperative early warning network that we share with our neighbors and our safety, evacuation and other procedures have proven to be effective. So on the rare chance a hurricane does head your way, we’ve got plans in place to keep you safe.

Do I need to exchange my money for Belize Dollars?

No, you don’t need to because United States Dollars are accepted throughout the country. One U.S. dollar is worth two Belize dollars – this rate is set and does not change. The majority of prices are listed in Belize dollars (except where noted) and you can pay in USD. For example, if the price is $40 Belize Dollars, you can give them $20 USD. You may receive change in BZD, but can often easily exchange it for USD before you leave the country.

Is tipping in Belize common and how much should I tip?

Generally, the average tip at restaurants in Belize is about 10%. However, some locations add an extra 8.5% “service fee” charge to your meal or stay so be sure to check your bill before adding on an additional tip. And it’s always appreciated when you tip your tour guides for a job well done or for any extra service.

Sirenian Bay does not automatically add the 8.5% service fee customary to Belize hotel and home rental. Local staff tips are not expected, but they are appreciated. Our staff participate in a Tip Sharing program (you’ll receive more information on that when you check in).

How is the WiFi at Sirenian Bay and in Belize?

Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas provides complimentary WiFi and works to provide the highest speed possible in the area. Keep in mind that Belize is still a developing country and the infrastructure is not a first-world operation yet.

We’ve installed the best equipment throughout the Resort and have upgraded to a faster service so you will be able to check email and do basic surfing. However, there will be occasions where it is slow or doesn’t connect for a few minutes here or there. For the most part, you won’t notice these slow or disconnected time because you’ll be out and about enjoying beautiful Belize!

Speaking of out and about, WiFi is available almost everywhere you go in the village, you just need to get the password from each place!

Can I bring my pet with me?

Sirenian Bay is a pet-free property. You’ll find plenty of furry friends up and down the Peninsula – and if you’re missing yours, the Placencia Humane Society is always in need of volunteers to provide love and walks. However, all of Sirenian Bay Resort and Villas is a pet-free property.

Can I do laundry?

Each villa is equipped with a laundry room. We provide a small amount of laundry detergent, and more is available at the local grocery store. Guests staying in the Bunaglows will have access to our community laundry area (additional fees may apply).

Accommodations

Make yourself at home in one of the 31 individually decorated guestrooms. Your pillowtop bed comes with down comforters and Frette Italian sheets. Rooms have private patios. Private bathrooms with showers feature rainfall showerheads and designer toiletries.
